The company LOTOS Kolej has implemented projects co-financed by EU funds.

  • Adaptation of tank wagons to TSI Noise requirements by replacing cast iron brake blocks with composite blocks

LOTOS Kolej sp. z o.o. implemented the project entitled: "Adaptation of tank wagons to TSI Noise requirements by replacing cast iron brake blocks with composite blocks." As part of the project, 168 wagons used for the transport of gases were adapted to meet the interoperability requirements of the railway system (TSI Noise – Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/774). This was achieved by replacing traditional cast iron brake blocks with composite ones, contributing to a reduction in noise emissions during freight transport.

Wagons of types 413Ra, 417F, 455R, 456R and 419Ra were equipped with the following certified composite blocks to meet the noise interoperability standards:

  •  LLIB 116 composite brake blocks (250x80x60 mm) – 2,272 units
  • ·LLIB 116 composite brake blocks (320x80x60 mm) – 1,552 units

The brake blocks are made of materials certified by the International Union of Railways (UIC), recognised by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), and compliant with the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI) for the “freight wagons” subsystem.

The replacement work was carried out by employees of the LOTOS Kolej Wagon Maintenance and Management Facility in Płock.  The brake block replacements were integrated with the regular maintenance cycles of the wagons, particularly during P4-level (revision overhaul) and P5-level (major overhaul) repairs.

The wagons included in the project are used for domestic freight transport.

This project was co-financed under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme 2014–2020, Priority Axis V – Development of rail transport in Poland, Measure  5.2 – Development of rail transport outside the TEN-T network, Call no. POIiŚ.5.2/1/21. Grant agreement no. POIS.05.02.00-00-0051/21-00 dated 30 September 2022 with the Centre for EU Transport Projects

Implementation period: 15.09.2022-30.12.2023 r.

Total project cost: PLN 565,203.25

Eligible expenditure: PLN 459,514.84

EU co-financing amount: PLN 229,757.42

  • Procurement of Modern Intermodal Rolling Stock – LOTOS Kolej Sp. z o.o.

The project involves the purchase of 326 units of intermodal rolling stock, including:

  • 1 multi-system electric locomotive
  • 1 single-system electric locomotive
  • 288 platform wagons with an 80-foot loading surface
  • 36 platform wagons with a 40-foot loading surface

The objective of the project is to increase the share of intermodal transport in overall freight volumes. By partially shifting intermodal cargo from road to rail transport, the project aims to reduce the negative impact of road transport — including lower pollutant emissions (particularly in urban areas), improved traffic safety, and reduced wear on road infrastructure.

The project is co-financed under Measure 3.2 – Development of maritime transport, inland waterways and multimodal connections, Priority Axis III – Development of the TEN-T road network and multimodal transport, of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme 2014–2020. Grant Agreement No.: POIS.03.02.00-00-0021/17-00
